Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cricket League (KCL) Season 3 is set to showcase a new generation of talent, with five teenage cricketers emerging as players to watch. Among them are Kerala’s India Under-19 stars Mohammed Inan and Manav Krishna.
Four of the five teenagers will represent Thrissur Titans this season. They are Manav Krishna, Mohammed Inan, KR Rohith and Amay Manoj. The fifth, all-rounder Jobin Joby, will turn out for Kochi Blue Tigers for the third consecutive season. The tournament begins on August 20.
Eighteen-year-old KR Rohith, who also represented Thrissur last season, is the youngest player in this year’s competition. A native of Tripunithura, Rohith made his debut for Kerala’s Under-19 team at the age of 16. The other four players are all 19 years old.
Manav Krishna captained Kerala’s Under-19 side last season before earning a call-up to the India Under-19 team. The wicketkeeper-batter marked his debut on the Sri Lanka tour with a century in the opening match and later made his senior Kerala debut in the Ranji Trophy.
Mohammed Inan, who has represented India at the Under-19 World Cup, trained under legendary former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq in Dubai before returning to Kerala. He has also represented India Under-19 in series against Australia and England.
Amay Manoj played several match-winning knocks for Kerala in last season’s Under-19 campaign, including a century against Punjab. His performances earned him a place at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Under-19 camp.
Jobin Joby, an all-rounder, enjoyed an outstanding Cooch Behar Trophy campaign, scoring a century and taking five wickets against Hyderabad.
