Who was Pradeep Rawat? Ghajini actor who died at 74 after battling cancer

New Delhi: Veteran actor , best known for Ghajini and Lagaan, has died at the age of 74 after battling cancer. Pradeep Rawat’s manager Sidharth Tiwari confirmed that the actor had been undergoing after his cancer relapsed.

He said in an official statement, “Pradeep Sir passed away an hour back and he was suffering from cancer, he was hospitalised for the last one month.”

He was initially undergoing treatment at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai and was later shifted to another hospital, where he breathed his last.

Who is Pradeep Rawat?

With career spanning over four decades, actor Pradeep Rawat made his mark across Indian cinema. He has worked in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Nepali, and Marathi cinema.

He made his debut in early 80s with BR Chopra’s iconic television series, Mahabharat. In the iconic show, he essayed the role of Ashwatthama, which made him a household name. and his name became synonyms with the fierce warrior long before he established himself as one of the recognisable faces of the Indian cinema.

He carved a niche for himself by becoming most recognisable screen villains.

He collaborated with Aamir Khan in Sarfarosh, Oscar-nominated Lagaan, where he played the role of Deva Singh,. and AR Murugadoss’s Ghajini, where he played a ruthless villain. He also essayed the role of the antagonist in Tamil blockbuster, Ghajini.

Following success in Bollywood, he starred in SS Rajamouli;s Sye, which was a turning point in his career. His portrayal of Bikshu Yadav earned him widespread acclaim.

Over the years, he has appeared in several film, including The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Stalin, Rowdy Rathore, Veeram 1: Nenokkadine, Loukyam, Nenu Sailaja, Sarrainodu, Nene Raju Nenu, Mantri, Aayirathil Iruvar, Market Raja MBBS and Miss Match. In recent years, he worked in Waltair Veerayya, Gulu Gulu and Chhava, alongside projects in Marathi and Nepali cinema.

Pradeep Rawat funeral

The mortal remains of veteran actor Pradeep Rawat will be placed for final respects from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at B Wing, P3, Imperial Heights in Goregaon West. After the public pays their last respects, his final journey will begin at 4:00 pm. The last rites and cremation are scheduled to take place near Oshiwara Bridge on SV Road in Jogeshwari West.

He is survived by his wife and son, Vikramaditya.
