Vegetable oil imports rose 8% in May; Increase in crude oil imports, huge decline in refined palm oil imports
India’s vegetable oil imports increased by 8 percent year-on-year to 13.65 lakh tonnes in May 2026. Crude soybean oil imports increased due to competitive prices. Due to difference in duty, the share of crude oil reached 97 percent and the import of refined palm oil decreased rapidly. Edible oil stocks increased to 22.13 lakh tonnes due to strong imports and domestic production.
