IMD issues red alert for 3 Karnataka districts as heavy rain likely over next 7 days

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across Karnataka over the next seven days, with heavy to extremely heavy showers expected in several parts of the state.

According to the weather department, many regions are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Coastal and Malnad districts are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall during the forecast period.

A red alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert has also been declared for five other districts, including the remaining coastal regions, as intense rainfall is expected.

The IMD has advised fishermen to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing into the sea because of rough weather conditions.

In north Karnataka, districts including Bagalkote, Bidar, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Dharwad and Haveri are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by winds of 40–50 kmph.

Authorities have urged residents in rain-affected areas to remain alert, follow official weather advisories and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall continues across several parts of the state.
