Glasgow restaurant apologises, assures correction after Lovlina Borgohain flags wrong India map

New Delhi: A restaurant in Glasgow has apologised and assured that it will correct the wrong map of India displayed at its premises after boxer Lovlina Borgohain and other members of the Indian Boxing Association (IBA) flagged issues in it. Lovlina pointed out that the northeast was missing from the map displayed on a napkin and at the entry of the restaurant in Glasgow.

The IBA members also pointed out that Jammu & Kashmir was also incorrectly represented on the map. The incident took place at a restaurant called The Home of Curry in Glasgow, where the Indian boxing contingent had gone for a celebratory dinner after their terrific show in the .

During the team’s dinner at the restaurant, Lovlina noticed a major flaw in India’s map that was displayed at the property. Following the team’s dinner, Lovlina pointed out that the northeast was missing from the map, requesting the restaurant management to correct it. A video of the incident also went viral on social media.

The Indian boxer has now revealed that the Indian restaurant has apologised for the incorrect map and assured that a correct version will be displayed at the venue soon. Lovlina revealed that the restaurant was using a British map, which is why the northeast was missing from it.

“It was an Indian restaurant where we were having food and few people told me that the napkin and logo of the restaurant is having a India map printed in which north east map is missing and Kashmir’s part is also not correct. I felt real bad about it, raised my voice against this issue to the owners. They said it’s a British map that’s why northeast is missing and apologised for the same. Having said that, they will change the map,” Lovlina was quoted as saying by India Today.

Earlier, a video of Lovlina addressing the restaurant’s management regarding the incorrect India map had gone viral on social media. In the video, the Indian boxer said she felt hurt to see the northeast, an integral part of the country, missing from the map.

“Please don’t take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that’s displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That’s all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much,” she said at the restaurant.

Indian boxing team enjoys stellar run in Glasgow

The Indian boxing team enjoyed a stellar run at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, producing its in the history of the Games. India won a total of 10 medals in boxing, including seven gold medals. Lovlina won a silver medal in the women’s 75kg category at the Games.

The Indian boxing contingent went to the Indian restaurant in Glasgow to celebrate their success with a team dinner.
