Mohammedan SC sets August 10 deadline for President Humayun Kabir over financial commitments

New Delhi: Mohammedan Sporting Club has issued a stern ultimatum to its president, Humayun Kabir, amid an ongoing controversy over bounced cheques and unmet financial commitments.

At a meeting held on Saturday, the club’s officials decided that Kabir must honour his financial promise by August 10, failing which he will be removed from the post of president. As part of the deadline, he has been asked to deposit half of the committed amount by August 5.

The club has also appointed Ghazal Jafar as interim president, while Kazi Masum Akhtar has been removed from the post of vice-president as part of the administrative reshuffle.

According to club sources, Humayun Kabir had committed to providing Rs 25 crore in financial support to Mohammedan Sporting. Under the revised timeline, he has been directed to pay Rs 12.5 crore by August 5, with the remaining amount to be cleared by August 10. Failure to meet these commitments will result in his removal from the presidency.

The latest development comes after three cheques issued by Kabir to the club reportedly bounced. The cheques, dated July 17, July 20 and July 30, were each worth Rs 50 lakh, amounting to a total of Rs 1.5 crore.

Responding to the controversy earlier, Kabir had questioned why the cheques were deposited without his permission and claimed the issue would be resolved within a few days. However, with the matter still unresolved, the club has now taken disciplinary action and imposed strict deadlines to safeguard its financial interests.
