Sarvam AI launches Epoch Builder Edition to build India-centric LLMs in 10+ languages
New Delhi: Sarvam AI, an AI solutions company based in Bengaluru, has introduced a new platform designed to support Indian organisations in creating AI models that cater to their specific needs and local languages. The new Epoch Builder Edition was announced on Thursday. It is designed for banks, government agencies, startups and research organisations that are looking to build AI applications with their own data.

The platform offers tools to build, fine-tune and deploy large language models. It emphasises Indian languages and scenarios heavily. This is to reduce the dependence of foreign AI systems for domestic applications.
Models built for Indian languages
According to Sarvam AI, the newly added multilingual LLMs have 7 billion and 70 billion parameters, respectively. The models are trained on 2 trillion tokens. They are available in over 10 Indian languages. They consist of Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Marathi and Bengali. It also supports code-mixed languages like ‘Hinglish’ and ‘Kannanglish’.
Users have access to clusters of GPUs for distributed training. The platform allows for reinforcement learning from human feedback and instruction tuning. There’s also API access and deployment on-premises.
Curated data and safety tools
The company has added curated datasets on Indian law and governance, and finance and vernacular content. It also provides tools for red-teaming, toxicity assessment and benchmarking specific to the Indian cultural and linguistic landscape. The features are designed to support enterprises in cutting expenses and maintaining control over their data.
Pratyush Kumar, the co-founder of the company, was present at the launching event. He stressed the need for India to build its own AI models. So, it’s really important that we have our own abilities in developing our own models that we need for many different applications,” he said. He also stated that India has established global companies in the past, and it can be done for AI.
Partnerships and availability
Sarvam AI signed a deal with three IITs and two state governments. These will be on pilot projects for education and public service delivery. Epoch Builder Edition will be in a private preview in August 2026. The product will be available in general for the fourth quarter of 2026.
