Shocking: Ex-tenant kills wrong woman with sword in landlord’s house

New Delhi: A year-long grudge turned deadly on Tuesday morning when a former tenant armed with a sword and a knife barged into his ex-landlord’s home in Amar Nagar, leaving a woman dead and an elderly couple seriously injured, police said.

The deceased, 40-year-old Sangeeta Chaudhary, was staying with her sister Vanita Dahat when the attack happened. Police said she was an unintended target and died on the spot after her throat was slit with a sword.

Police investigates shocking case

According to investigators, the suspect, Roshan Taral (30), stormed into the house of his former landlord, Dharmapal Dahat (51), and his wife, Vanita (48), around 9:00 am. Police believe the violent assault was fueled by revenge Taral had been harboring since moving out about a year ago.

When Taral lived there as a tenant, he had fights with the family over loud radio music and being scolded for minor mistakes. During questioning, Taral told police he felt humiliated by the family and was angry about being made to leave the room. Police are also checking if he had other issues related to an ex-girlfriend.

On Tuesday morning, Taral arrived with a sword and knife hidden in a bag. Dharmapal was sitting in the front room using his phone when Taral suddenly attacked him. Dharmapal raised his hands to protect himself, suffering severe finger injuries, and was then struck in the face.

Sangeeta then came out from the kitchen area, and Taral slashed her throat with the sword. Bleeding heavily, she ran out onto the street holding her neck and collapsed on the road.

After the attack, Taral briefly walked outside. When he saw local youths nearby, he threatened them, ran back into the house, locked the door, and sat on the sofa. Neighbours quickly locked the door from the outside, trapping him inside until the police arrived. MIDC police officers reached the spot, broke open the door, and arrested Taral. The injured couple was rushed to a nearby hospital, and Sangeeta’s body was sent for an autopsy.

Police have filed a case of murder and attempted murder against Taral, and an investigation is underway.
