From Lucknow to Varanasi: UP govt plans major statue installations in 12 districts
New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government is set to put up statues of renowned historical figures and leaders across 12 districts in the state. The list of icons includes Maharana Pratap, Guru Gorakhnath, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh announced on Tuesday.

The state’s culture department has already started building the pedestals where these statues will stand. According to a government statement, the move is aimed at helping the younger generation learn about the contributions of these iconic personalities and draw inspiration from their lives.
Singh said that the installations are planned across Lucknow, Agra, Gorakhpur, Shahjahanpur, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Gonda, Firozabad, Moradabad, Barabanki, Maharajganj, and Varanasi.
State capital and major hubs to get equestrian figures
Giving details of the specific sites, the minister noted that Lucknow will get a 12.5-foot equestrian bronze statue of Prithviraj Chauhan. Agra will see a similar equestrian statue dedicated to Maharaja Surajmal.
In Gorakhpur, a 12.5-foot standing bronze statue of Guru Gorakhnath is coming up near the city’s airport. Meanwhile, Shahjahanpur will feature an equestrian statue of Maharana Pratap at Bareilly Mod.
Both Pratapgarh and Ghazipur have been chosen for 12.5-foot standing bronze statues of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Gonda will get a six-foot bronze statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, while a three-foot bronze bust of martyr Captain Devesh Kumar Kulshreshtha is set to be placed at Machhan village in Firozabad.
Work underway across eastern and central UP
Maharana Pratap will also be honoured with equestrian statues in Moradabad and Varanasi. A statue originally planned for Rampur has now been relocated to Barabanki, the minister pointed out.
Additionally, a six-foot white marble statue of Shibban Lal Saxena will be installed on the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial PG College in Maharajganj.
The culture department is currently working alongside local representatives and district magistrates to wrap up the pedestal work quickly so the statues can be unveiled without delay, Singh said.
