Meerut blue drum murder: Muskan, lover Sahil move Allahabad HC against death sentence
New Delhi: Muskan Rastogi and her lover, Sahil Shukla, have approached the Allahabad High Court to challenge their death sentences in the murder of Muskan’s husband, Saurabh Rajput, according to sources.

A Meerut district court sentenced the two to death on October 14 in the blue drum murder case. Police recovered Rajput’s dismembered body from a drum inside his house in March 2025. The case drew nationwide attention.
Joint appeal filed
Sources said lawyers representing Muskan and Sahil filed a joint appeal against the death sentences in the Allahabad High Court. Both convicts remain lodged in Meerut’s Chaudhary Charan Singh Jail. Prosecution lawyer Krishnakant Choubey said the death sentences had also been referred to the High Court for confirmation. He said confirmation remained pending.
The appeal seeks to overturn the sentences imposed by the district court. Separately, the High Court must examine the reference seeking confirmation of the death penalty.
Body recovered from drum
Police recovered Rajput’s dismembered remains from a blue drum at his Meerut home on March 17, 2025. The discovery brought the case into the national spotlight and led to widespread public attention. According to the prosecution’s account, Muskan killed Rajput with Sahil’s help on March 3, 2025. The following day, the two cut his body into 15 pieces and placed the remains inside the drum to conceal the crime.
The prosecution alleged that Muskan and Sahil then left for Shimla on March 5, two days after the murder.
Arrests followed police probe
According to the details of the investigation, police obtained evidence linking Muskan and Sahil to the killing on March 16. Officers recovered the body the next day. Police arrested the pair on March 19, 2025. They were subsequently produced before a court and sent to jail. The recovery of the remains from inside Rajput’s own house became a central part of the case.
Trial began in July
The trial began in the district judge’s court in July 2025. The court heard witnesses and arguments from the prosecution and defence before delivering its verdict. After convicting Muskan and Sahil, the Meerut court awarded them the death penalty on October 14. Their challenge to that punishment now rests before the Allahabad High Court, alongside the reference for confirmation.
