3 devotees killed, 7 injured as pilgrims bus rams trailer on Jaipur-Ajmer highway

New Delhi: Three pilgrims from Maharashtra died and seven others sustained injuries after their private bus collided with a trailer on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway early on Saturday, police officials confirmed. The victims were returning from Khatushyamji temple and heading towards the Sanwariya Seth temple in Chittorgarh when the crash took place.

The incident occurred at around 1:50 am in Jaipur’s Bagru area as the bus was descending the Bagru culvert. Passengers seated in the front rows bore the brunt of the collision, suffering severe injuries from the impact.

Local residents rushed to the spot along with police personnel to rescue passengers who were trapped inside the mangled front portion of the bus. The injured were moved immediately to the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur for medical attention.

Victims identified, condition critical for two

According to Bagru station house officer Chandrabhan, the vehicle was carrying 28 devotees hailing from Nashik in Maharashtra. Officials noted that the trailer was already on fire at the time the bus crashed into it.

“The bus was carrying 28 pilgrims travelling from Nashik in Maharashtra to Sanwalia Seth in Chittorgarh. It collided with a trailer while descending the Bagru culvert. Three people died on the spot,” said Bagru station house officer Chandrabhan.

The deceased have been identified by authorities as Mahendra (38), Sandeep (45), and Deepak (47).

Doctors at the SMS Hospital trauma centre stated that the injured were brought in during the early hours and attended to by senior medical teams.

“Two of the seven patients were admitted in a critical condition, while three were kept in the observation ward for close monitoring. The remaining two were discharged after first aid,” said trauma officer Rajendra Mandia.

Second fatal accident near Jaipur within 24 hours

The collision comes a day after another fatal road crash occurred in the district on Friday morning, where four people lost their lives and two others were hurt.

In that accident, a car carrying six friends from Agra plunged into a roadside ditch following a tyre blowout on the Dausa-Manoharpur section of National Highway 148 in the Raisar police station limits. The victims had also been returning after offering prayers at the Khatushyamji shrine.

“The accident occurred around 6 am in the Raisar police station area. All six occupants were residents of Agra in Uttar Pradesh and were returning from Khatushyamji. Four died on the spot, while two were injured,” said circle officer Ram Kishan Vishnoi.

Police said a detailed probe is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the collision on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway.
