Ramayana OTT release: Ranbir Kapoor, Yash film to stream on JioHotstar, but there’s a catch

New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s will make its digital debut on JioHotstar after its theatrical run, according to an HT report. JioHotstar and Prime Focus Studios have announced a partnership that will let viewers watch the film by purchasing or renting it, rather than through a regular streaming subscription.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the film is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on November 5, 2026, coinciding with Diwali. It will also be screened in IMAX 3D. The film will arrive on JioHotstar after its theatrical window ends, giving audiences a chance to watch the movie in the comfort of their homes.

Ramayana OTT release details

According to a report by HT, under the pay-per-view model, viewers will have to pay separately to watch Ramayana on JioHotstar. The film will not be available as part of a regular streaming subscription. The partnership aims to make the film accessible to more people across India, including those who may not have access to cinemas screening it in premium formats.

Nita Ambani, chairperson of JioStar, said the collaboration would help take the story to a wider audience and introduce younger viewers to its values.

“Ramayana is one of India’s greatest civilisational treasures, a story that has shaped our conscience, inspired our imagination, and guided the way we live for centuries. As India enters a new era of storytelling, we have an extraordinary opportunity to carry our cultural legacy forward. At JioHotstar, our vision is to use technology to bring the finest stories within reach of every Indian. It is our privilege to present this grand cinematic vision of Ramayana to families across the country, and introduce a new generation to its eternal values of duty, love, courage, and goodness,” she said.

Namit Malhotra on Ramayana’s digital release

Namit Malhotra said the team wants audiences to experience Ramayana on the biggest possible screen, especially in IMAX 3D. However, he also acknowledged that cinema infrastructure does not reach everyone in the country.

“I believe Ramayana should be experienced on the biggest screen possible, in IMAX 3D. But our country’s cinema infrastructure cannot reach everyone who holds this epic close. Ramayana belongs to every Indian, and our ambition must reflect that. JioHotstar has time and again shown how technology can bring a nation together through its sports and entertainment offering. That made them a natural partner to take Ramayana into people’s hands and living rooms after its theatrical run,” he added.

The digital release will give viewers another option to experience the film after its run in theatres, while the pay-per-view format will allow them to purchase or rent access separately.
