Mumbai: Engineering student dies by suicide, messages doctor before death
New Delhi: A second-year student of an engineering college in central Mumbai, allegedly died by suicide, said the police. The boy’s body was found hanging in his hostel room on Tuesday night, they added.

The deceased was identified as Siddhesh Patil, who was a student of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Matunga. His body was discovered at around 10:30 pm. He was reportedly hanging from the ceiling fan in his room, said the police.
The student hailed from Nashik. He had been staying in the hostel of the deemed university. Reports claimed that he had been under depression and was having some mental health issues for the past some time. He had also been taking medication and counselling for the same.
Patil had messaged his doctor just before taking the extreme step. This was the same doctor who was treating him for the depression issue the student had been facing. In his message, he reportedly told the doctor that he was experiencing suicidal thoughts.
The doctor informed the student’s family, as soon as he received the message. The student’s family in turn reached out to his friends at the college and hostel. They requested the other students to check on him.
However, it was too late for any help to reach Patil. He had already died by suicide, by the time, his friends reached his room.
The Matunga Police have registered a case in the matter. They are investigating the student’s death from all angles.
This incident comes just around a month after an IIT Bombay student, Sahil Wakode died by suicide. He was reportedly found using a mobile phone during an internal examination, and was reprimanded by an invigilator inside the examination hall. Later he was found hanging in his hostel room.
Wakode’s death was reportedly the 3rd suicide at the IIT Bombay campus in 6 months. This led to protests by students and also an investigation against the teacher who caught him using the mobile phone.
