‘She asked him 100 times?’: Vijay Deverakonda faces backlash over Rashmika Mandanna proposal remark
New Delhi: The power couple Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna are set to grace the Kouch in the second episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9. Now, Vijay has found himself at the centre of an online debate after a promo for the upcoming episode of Koffee With Karan 9 featured him talking about Rashmika Mandanna’s marriage proposal.
The clip quickly gained attention on social media, with a section of viewers criticising the actor’s response and calling it “kind of humiliating” towards his wife. Some users felt his remarks gave the impression that Rashmika had put more effort into their relationship.
What did Vijay Deverakonda say?
In the promo, host Karan Johar introduces the couple as a ‘blockbuster couple’ before asking Vijay about their proposal story. Rashmika recalls telling him, “Let’s get married,” to which Vijay responded, “Okay, you ask me a hundred times.”
When Karan asks if she really asked him that many times, Rashmika says, “I asked him for an entire year.” Vijay then added, “I am not an a**hole.”
The short exchange was enough to get people talking on social media. While some viewers treated it as a personal anecdote between the couple, others questioned why the story was being shared publicly.

Vijay Deverakonda faces backlash
One user on X (formerly Twitter) questioned Vijay’s decision to reveal the story, writing, “She asked him 100 times to marry her? Even if it is true, why is he revealing it publicly? He’s kind of humiliating her.”
Another viewer said that they did not like the way Vijay appeared it seems like marrying Rashmika was a favour. The user also brought up the couple’s wedding invitations while explaining their reaction.
A third post criticised Vijay’s public remarks and said Rashmika seemed deeply in love with him. Another user raised a different concern, asking what happens when one partner loves the other more and that affection begins to be taken for granted.

Vijay and Rashmika married on February 26, 2026, in a private ceremony at ITC Mementoes in Udaipur, attended by close friends and family.
