‘We are leaving this world’: Gurugram man suspected of killing wife before dying by suicide

New Delhi: Police suspect that a 30-year-old man killed his wife before dying by suicide at their rented apartment in Gurugram. Before his death, Mohammad Aslam reportedly emailed his employer with the message, “We are leaving this world”.

Aslam and his wife, Farhana, were found dead on Wednesday at M3M Marina residential society. The day also marked Farhana’s birthday. Badshahpur police have registered a murder case and have sought forensic examination of evidence collected from the apartment.

Email alerted colleagues

Aslam reportedly sent the email around 7 am and included contact numbers for his family members and landlord. His colleagues contacted the landlord after receiving the message.

The landlord then visited the couple’s flat in Tower 7. According to the initial account, the apartment door was open when he arrived. He found Aslam dead inside and Farhana lying on the floor with injuries to her neck.

Police suspect that Farhana was killed before Aslam took his own life. However, investigators have yet to establish the exact sequence of events.

Evidence sent for examination

Investigators recovered a note from the apartment that read, “We are leaving this world”. They also found the words “I love you” handwritten on Farhana’s clothes.

Police seized three laptops, two mobile phones, a rope, a diary, scissors and a pen drive. The recovered items have been sent for forensic examination.

Police registered the murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on their preliminary findings. They have yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Recent move to Gurugram

The couple belonged to Kerala and married in 2023. Both worked in the technology sector. They moved from Bengaluru to Gurugram around three months ago.

Aslam studied at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, and the Indian Institute of Management, Indore. Farhana worked for an IT firm from home.

Family raises work concerns

Family members said the couple shared a close relationship and that they knew of no marital discord.

According to relatives, Aslam had received treatment for depression for around one-and-a-half years. They suggested that work pressure in the IT sector may have contributed to the incident.

Police have not established that claim as a cause of the deaths. The investigation remains open, and further details are awaited.
