Sourav Joshi faces backlash for asking wife Avantika to drink water from dog bowl, defends dare
New Delhi: YouTuber Sourav Joshi has responded to criticism after he dared his wife, Avantika Bhatt, to drink water from their pet dog Oreo’s bowl during a game of Truth or Dare. The clip sparked a backlash online, with several viewers calling the task disrespectful and questioning why Avantika was asked to do it.
Sourav, however, has defended the dare. In his latest vlog, ‘Pahad Pe New Home’, he said there was no hygiene issue because the bowl had been properly washed and contained fresh water.

“The other day, when I made Avantika drink water from our pet’s bowl, a lot of people told me, ‘How could you make her do such things?’ Let me clarify, the bowl was washed well. And forget about cleaning the bowl, the water that we drink is not normal water; it is alkaline water. All of us, including Oreo, drink the same water. Hence, both the water and the bowl were absolutely clean,” Sourav Joshi said.
Sourav further argued that people who have pets may understand his point of view, as dogs often become part of the family.
“People with dogs would know that pets become family. A lot of times, we feed them from our own plates. We don’t think so much. If ever I get into a situation where I have to drink the same water from his bowl, I would. It is not a big deal. I have eaten from the same plate many times. He would always sleep with me. I thought it was important to clarify. It was a dare, after all. I will make her do even more extreme things,” he added.
Addressing questions about cleanliness at home, he said, “So, speaking about hygiene, our house is quite hygienic.” Avantika was present alongside Sourav during the vlog and appeared to agree with his explanation.

The controversy began after Sourav uploaded his Truth and Dare Part 2 vlog on October 13. During the game with his family, Sourav gave Avantika an unusual task.
“You have to drink water from Oreo’s bowl,” he told her.
Avantika was visibly surprised by the challenge and immediately replied, “Have you gone crazy? I am not going to do that.”
As she hesitated, Sourav encouraged her to take only a small sip, saying, “Bas thoda sa.” He also told her that the water had been changed and was clean.
Sourav then brought the bowl to Avantika. After initially refusing and questioning the dare, she eventually took a sip. She repeatedly said, “Chi,” after completing the task.

A clip of the incident also sparked a discussion on Reddit. While some wondered whether the entire sequence had been scripted for the vlog, others argued that the nature of the task itself was uncomfortable.
One Reddit user wrote, “Even if it’s scripted, which I totally think and hope it is, the mere thought of making your significant other drink water from a bowl made for an animal is just so dehumanising. It’s not funny; it’s not wow! It’s just embarrassing that an educated woman would even agree to do this scripted thing.”
