Rahul’s Big Claims: 200 Officers Feeding Him Information, Police and CRPF Backing Opposition; Protests to Intensify

Governance in India is collapsing. The system is collapsing. The government cannot stop us from protesting on the streets. Around 200 officers from the ED, CBI, and Ministry of External Affairs are providing us with information. The police, the CRPF and others are asking why they are being forced to beat genuine students while allowing “RSS goons” to roam freely. He alleged that 50 per cent of the police force was with the Opposition. Rahul claimed that the police had told him to go ahead, adding, “You are right,” they were telling him.

This, in a nutshell, was the essence of Leader of the Opposition ’s press conference in Delhi. Just as he interpreted the President of India’s remarks as an endorsement of the Opposition’s views on Vote Chori, he claimed that the Chief Justice of India had taken note of their concerns and asked them to file a plea in the Supreme Court.

Rahul said the purpose of the march to the Supreme Court was to file a plea against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and to save the Constitution.

Anticipating that they might be stopped on their way to the Supreme Court, Rahul urged supporters to take to social media to express their views if they could not join the march physically. This included the media, which, he claimed, might have been asked not to participate. Those unable to join the march could even remain inside their rooms and resolve to protect the Constitution, he said.

He said the resistance, which had begun 12 or 13 years ago, was now taking concrete shape and would not stop. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Ajit Doval, Modi’s chief adviser on national security, were protecting Gyanesh Kumar. According to Rahul, this was because the Opposition was merely raising issues flagged by the other two Election Commissioners.

Rahul claimed that he had inside information that Gyanesh Kumar was unable to sleep. “You will be taken to task. We know your history of corruption. We are waiting for the time. You cannot escape, however long it might take,” he said.

Rahul accused the government of committing a major mistake. He said the situation was frightening and that this was why Delhi had been turned into a fortress, with people being arrested in an attempt to suppress their voices. The more the government resorted to such measures, the stronger the resistance would become, he said.
