INDIA Bloc to Hold ‘Akrosh March’ Across Bihar on Wednesday

Amidst criticism that the INDIA bloc was united for a cause but was divided on the agenda, the opposition parties are now understood to have decided to hold ‘Akrosh March’ at block levels across Bihar on October 7 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

This was announced by the RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav on Monday. If it happens, it will be the first united protest against the alleged irregularities by the Election Commission of India.

Accusing the CEC of working at the “behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tejaswi Yadav said that the INDIA bloc partners would march to Lok Bhavan demanding removal of the CEC. He alleged that the Bihar and West Bengal polls were based on fraudulent electoral rolls.

“There were irregularities in the SIR exercise, including deletion of genuine voters. A one-year retention period for voter records was reduced to 45 days. The CEC has become a puppet of the BJP,” he added.

The leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly asserted that the INDIA bloc will “not allow democracy to be destroyed”.

After October 15, INDIA bloc leaders are likely to meet President Droupadi Murmu and submit a memorandum to her.
