Hyderabad youth better prepared for health emergencies, says report

Niva Bupa Health Insurance has unveiled a consumer insights report on young India’s outlook towards Health Insurance, revealing a unique preparedness paradox among Hyderabad’s youth. Young consumers in Hyderabad display stronger health preparedness and higher health insurance adoption than the national average, yet significantly underestimate the actual cost of medical emergencies, according to the latest Young India Health Insurance Report.

The city recorded an HPS of 5.13, outperforming the national average of 4.54, reflecting a stronger culture of health preparedness and financial protection among the city’s youth.The study found that 26 per cent of young consumers in Hyderabad own personal health insurance, compared to the national average of 14 per cent.

Additionally, Hyderabad’s youth allocate 18 per cent of their income towards protection plans, more than double the national average of 8 per cent. A notable 34 per cent of respondents from Hyderabad were classified under the report’s “Safe & Secure” category, compared with 24 per cent nationally, indicating greater readiness to manage health-related contingencies.
