India at Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2026 Live Updates: India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign got off to a great start, as Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh secured victory in their Round 1 Women’s Pairs Sectional Play match in Lawn Bowls. Earlier, boxer Lovlina Borgohain secured India’s first medal even before attending the opening ceremony, where she will serve as the country’s flag bearer.

The event was originally awarded to Australia’s Victoria state, but it was left without a host due to soaring costs. But Glasgow later stepped in to save the Commonwealth Games, though with a significantly scaled-back format.

It will feature only 10 sports, with several events such as hockey, badminton, shooting and wrestling omitted to ensure the Games remain financially sustainable. The trimmed-down programme of the event has significantly changed India’s medal prospects.
