Why LK, Jaishankar, Kejriwal and others got voter notices?
New Delhi: Several prominent Delhi voters, including BJP veteran L K Advani, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, received notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Officials said most of their details have since been verified and their names were cleared for inclusion in the final roll.

Most of the prominent voters were flagged as “unmapped with last SIR”, meaning their current electoral details could not be matched with Delhi’s previous SIR roll prepared in 2002. In some cases, other discrepancies in enumeration forms triggered verification.
The verification exercise has covered public representatives, officials and people from various fields. Notices were also issued to several other prominent personalities whose records required scrutiny.
The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer has clarified that receiving an SIR notice does not automatically mean a voter’s name will be removed. Voters are given an opportunity to submit documents and explain discrepancies. Any deletion requires a reasoned and appealable order.
More than 97 lakh electors are listed in the draft roll, while around 33.13 lakh have been identified for notices over discrepancies. Following verification and claims and objections, the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 4.
