Samsung’s big Unpacked event is just a day away, but it looks like the pricing surprise came early. A fresh leak out of Europe suggests the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 are set to cost noticeably more than their predecessors, and that’s got a lot of people wondering whether India will get hit with the same hike. Between these new leaks and the way things have been trending lately, it’s starting to look like last year’s prices might not survive this generation.

What the European leak actually shows

The numbers came from a Portuguese retailer that apparently published its product listings a bit too early. Worth noting: Portugal slaps a 23% VAT on electronics, so the prices there tend to run higher than elsewhere in Europe, which is something to keep in mind before assuming these figures apply everywhere.

According to the listing, the Z Flip 8 will still come in two storage flavours – 256GB and 512GB – priced at about ₹1,48,000 and around ₹1,71,000. The Z Fold 8, meanwhile, is expected to offer three tiers: 256GB, 512GB, and a 1TB option. Pricing reportedly starts at roughly ₹2,28,000, climbs to around ₹2,50,000 for the mid-tier, and tops out at about ₹2,94,000 for the 1TB model.

There’s also chatter about Samsung finally bringing out an “Ultra” version of the Fold. If the leaked info holds up, that model could cost around ₹22,000 more than the standard Fold 8 – no matter which storage size you go with.

What does this mean for India?

Nothing is confirmed yet on the Indian pricing front, but the signs aren’t exactly reassuring. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 launched here at ₹1,74,999 for the base 12GB+256GB model, and if the European increases are any indication, the Fold 8 could edge closer to the ₹2,00,000 mark this time around.

That said, it’s worth being cautious about reading too much into the European numbers directly – pricing in Europe is almost always higher than in India thanks to differences in taxation, so a straight conversion isn’t a reliable way to predict the actual Indian price.

Still, a price bump wouldn’t exactly come out of nowhere. Samsung’s already raised prices on several fronts in India this year – its Galaxy Tab S lineup saw increases recently, and even the Galaxy M47, which had only just launched, got a price adjustment within days of hitting shelves.

And Samsung isn’t the only one doing this. Apple, OnePlus, Nothing, and Realme have all increased their prices upward in recent months too, largely thanks to rising component costs. Given that pattern, it’d honestly be a bit surprising if the Fold 8 stuck to last year’s price tag.

The same leaked listing also gave a glimpse at Samsung’s upcoming wearables. The Galaxy Watch 9 is tipped to start at about ₹45,000 for the 40mm Bluetooth version, with the 44mm model coming in at roughly ₹48,000 – add around ₹5500 more if you want LTE. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, meanwhile, is expected to launch at approximately ₹83,000.
