DMDK chief demands loan waivers
Chennai: Describing agriculture and weaving as the “two eyes” of national growth, DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth on Tuesday demanded comprehensive financial assistance, loan waivers, and infrastructural support for the handloom, farming, and salt pan sectors across Tamil Nadu.

Addressing a press conference, she recalled the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and paid tribute to late DMDK founder ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth, noting his lifelong adherence to khadi attire. Highlighting the crisis faced by the handloom industry, Premalatha urged the state government to establish textile and apparel parks across all regions, including the Vriddhachalam constituency, and to introduce modern linen fabrics tailored to the preferences of the youth.
“Just as both eyes are essential for a human being, the two eyes that drive the nation’s growth are agriculture and weaving.
