16-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Gang-Raped In Sleeper Bus In Greater Noida

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in an empty sleeper bus near Pari Chowk, Greater Noida on August 4, the police said. The bus driver and conductor allegedly involved in the case has been arrested in the case.

The girl’s mother had reprimanded her and since then the teenager had abandoned her family in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri without informing her family, the police said. She was on her way to Noida Sector 63 where her cousin is residing.

The girl was allegedly abandoned at Pari Chowk in the rain amid the darkness. She discovered that she was not in the correct bus stop, so she asked the driver of the sleeping bus what the bus stop’s route was. She was told by the conductor that the bus is going to Noida Sector 63, after which she got on board the bus.

The bus was empty and also it was being driven back after repair in the workshop at Surajpur, police said. The teenager alleged that soon after the bus began moving, the conductor behaved inappropriately and that both the driver and conductor assaulted her and threatened her when she resisted.

It is reported that the accused had left the victim near Kashmere Gate area in Delhi and fled from the location. Then the girl went to the police and told them about the incident.

Both were arrested at a Timarpur parking lot, police said, identifying the two as the driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep. The bus has been impounded and is being sent for investigation. Video from the CCTV has been captured of the path the vehicle followed.

The sleeper berths in the back of the bus were covered with curtains, police said. The investigation reportedly found strands of the teenager’s hair on the vehicle.

The two have been charged with gang rape, kidnapping and assault. They have been remanded in custody by the court.

The Child Welfare Committee then gave the teenager back to her parents.
