Man kills wife over ‘Subhadra’ money

Bhubaneswar: Girish Pradhan, a resident of Indipur village in Dhenkanal district, has been taken into custody for the alleged murder of his wife, Kousalya Pradhan. The crime reportedly stemmed from a financial dispute involving the Subhadra Yojana scheme.

On Friday, the couple collected a Rs 5,000 instalment from the Odisha government’s Subhadra Yojana. Later that night, a violent altercation broke out after Kousalya reportedly refused to give the money to her husband. The suspect allegedly killed Kousalya during an argument before attempting to hide her body in a pit behind their house. The crime was uncovered the next morning when the couple’s children alerted neighbours to the fight. Local residents then discovered the body and called the police.

A police team arrived at the spot to recover the body. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Girish Pradhan was taken into custody and has reportedly admitted to the crime during the initial investigation.
