Damp distress: How to get rid of musty smell at home during monsoon

For all those who are in a regular dilemma to get rid of bad odour at home, there is a solution for it. In the rainy season, the moisture in the air gets trapped inside the fabric making it damp and unpleasant. Moreover, the dampness leads to mould and bacterias causing terrible smell. However, the wetness of the earth after rains is simply amazing to experience as it fills the atmosphere with a fresh and earthy aroma. Still, the dampness that follows after is simply revolting, leaving behind bad odour in the house.

A few easy tricks can help get rid of the bad odour in the house. The following are some of them:

Scented candles

Some fragrances are perfect when it comes to rainy days. Candles with scents like jasmine, eucalyptus, mint, lavender, rose and sandalwood make the perfect accompaniment to rainy days. Aromas of jasmine make the room smell good and cosy. Eucalyptus and mint scents, on the other hand, are perfect to get rid of the dampness and unpleasant odour of the rainy season. Similarly, lavender is an amazing scent to freshen up the room during the monsoon. Lavender is a wonderful aroma that makes the place smell good, especially during the monsoon. Lastly, candles with rose scent make the room smell romantic and fill it with a delicate floral fragrance. The candle light adds to the romance of the rainy season.

Using a dehumidifier

A dehumidifier is a perfect appliance to keep your home smelling good and dry during the rainy season. It helps in maintaining the desired dryness in the air, thus, preventing mould growth in the house. This, in turn, prevents damage to wooden furniture in the house as well as the electronics. A portable electric dehumidifier can be used in the house to get rid of the dampness and unpleasant smell. However, for small rooms, you can also use bamboo charcoal and rock salt to absorb the moisture from the air.

Essential oils

Essential oils are perfect to add a wonderful fragrance to the linen as well as the house. You can also use essential oils to get rid of the awful odour from the house during the rainy season. The most common essential oils include tea tree, eucalyptus and lemon oils. Simply add a few drops of the oil to a diffuser or use it to make a room freshener to get rid of the dampness.

Aromatic room sprays

Room sprays are an amazing way to get rid of musty odour during the monsoon season. Using a room spray filled with essential oils, herbal extracts and floral sprays can help make your house smell wonderful. It is always easy to make an aromatic room freshener at home. It just needs a few drops of essential oils and water mixed together along with some witch hazel. The type of essential oil that you add will decide the fragrance of the room freshener. You can, therefore, choose the scent that you like best.

Keeping the room well ventilated and avoiding dampness in the clothes is also vital in this regard. All these tricks can help your home smell good even during the rainy season.
