‘Why would I say no?’: Bhuvneshwar Kumar throws his hat in the ring for 2027 ODI World Cup

New Delhi: Amid growing calls over his inclusion in India’s ODI setup ahead of the World Cup next year, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has thrown his hat in the ring for selection. The veteran pacer said he is ready to make his much-awaited comeback for the Indian team if the selectors consider him part of the Men in Blue’s plans for the .

Bhuvneshwar last played for in January 2022 before being sidelined as the selectors and the team management decided to move on from the senior pacer and prioritise the youngsters coming up at the time. While he has failed to make his comeback for India, Bhuvneshwar has made waves with his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He has been one of the most consistent pacers in the IPL over the last few seasons and played a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s back-to-back title triumphs. Thanks to his impressive performances for RCB, the likes of R Ashwin, Ravi Shastri and Kris Srikkanth, among others, have called for the 36-year-old’s inclusion in India’s ODI squad.

Bhuvneshwar, who is gearing up to feature in the upcoming UP T20 League, was recently asked if he is ready if the selectors do consider him for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The pacer said he is absolutely ready and will give his all if he gets to make a comeback for the Indian team.

“Why would I say no if I get a call? Absolutely ready,” Kumar was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

“Honestly, I cannot say exactly how ready I am. My job is to play cricket and that is why I have come here to play in the UP T20 league. I didn’t come here with the intention of moving to another place or reaching another level,” he added.

Bhuvneshwar will be representing the Lucknow Falcons in the upcoming UP T20 League. The veteran pacer said he is currently only focused on doing well for his team in the T20 league and is not worried about where his performances can land him in the future.

“We play IPL knowing we have to perform and win matches for the team, but I didn’t come here to the UP T20 league hoping to get picked elsewhere or because someone said something,” he added.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s stellar show for RCB

Bhuvneshwar has arguably been one of the most consistent pacers in the IPL over the years. However, he has found a new lease of life at RCB after being sidelined from the Indian team. The 36-year-old has produced stellar performances for RCB over the last two seasons to play an instrumental role in their twin title triumphs.

Bhuvneshwar picked up 17 wickets for RCB in IPL 2025 to help them clinch their maiden title. He elevated his performances to another level in IPL 2026, where he finished with an impressive 28 wickets in 16 matches to power his team to a second successive title. Bhuvneshwar finished the season as the second-highest wicket-taker behind Gujarat Titans’ Kagiso Rabada to force his way into debates over India’s 2027 ODI World Cup selection.
