Himachal Pradesh government offers support for fishermen

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has announced schemes for the fisheries sector to provide subsidies on the purchase of fishing boats and fishing gear.

The move will strengthen the fisheries sector and promote sustainable fishing practices across the state, officials said. Under the fishing boat subsidy scheme, eligible reservoir fishermen will receive 70 per cent financial assistance for the purchase of fishing boats.

The cost of each boat is Rs 50,000, of which the state government has committed to bear 70 per cent, while the remaining 30 per cent cost is to be borne by the beneficiary, according to officials.
