Siddaramaiah’s son likely to get key role as Leader of Karnataka Legislative Council

New Delhi: Karnataka Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is likely to take on another important responsibility, with indications that he may soon be appointed as the Leader of the House in the Legislative Council.

The post is currently vacant, and Yathindra Siddaramaiah is reportedly emerging as the likely choice for the position. One of the key reasons being cited is that he is currently the only minister in the state Cabinet who is a member of the Legislative Council.

A similar arrangement existed during Siddaramaiah’s previous government, when N.S. Boseraju served as a minister as well as the Leader of the House in the Legislative Council.

Following the same precedent, the leadership is now reportedly considering handing the responsibility to Yathindra Siddaramaiah.

Yathindra to lead government in council during monsoon session

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly’s monsoon session is scheduled to begin on August 13. If appointed, Yathindra Siddaramaiah will play a key role in representing and leading the ruling party’s side in the Legislative Council during the session.

The Leader of the House is responsible for coordinating the government’s business in the Council and responding to issues raised by the Opposition.

Political circles are also viewing the possible appointment through an internal party lens. According to reports, giving Yathindra the key Council responsibility could also be part of an effort to ease any differences or displeasure within the Siddaramaiah camp.

With the monsoon session approaching, a formal decision on the appointment is expected to assume importance as the government prepares to face the Opposition in the Legislative Council.
