Karnataka: Woman dies by suicide in Mysuru, alleges work place harassment in note

New Delhi: In a shocking case reported from Karnataka’s Mysuru, a woman allegedly died by suicide after being severely harassed at her workplace. The woman reportedly consumed pesticide. Her suicide note, gave an indication that she was being continuously harassed at her workplace and was under immense stress.

The deceased was identified as Nageshwari. She was working as a Tata product manager at Reliance Mart in Hinakal. She was employed through a marketing agency, PPMS, reported NDTV.

Following her death, the family claimed that Nageshwari was under immense mental stress, for the past 15 days. She had told her family that she was continuously being harassed at her workplace and was not even being given emergency leaves.

In her suicide note, the woman alleged that her seniors at the workplace were harassing and torturing her. Nageshwari said that she was being blamed and reprimanded for even those mistakes which were not hers. The woman further said that she had been denied her weekly leaves for the past 4 months and was also not given any emergency leaves.

Nageshwari also named a supervisor, Dolly in her suicide note. She said that it was due to continuous humiliation at her workplace that she was taking the extreme step.

Following her death, Nageshwari’s mother demanded justice for her daughter. She claimed that Nageshwari was harassed even for small things at her workplace, which drove her to suicide. She also demanded that the supervisor whose name her daughter had written in the suicide note must be arrested and charged with her death. She said that not only was Nageshwari harassed but ultimately she lost her job. The mother demanded accountability.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating the death. An police personnel said that they are analysing the suicide note and would be also investigating the allegations of workplace harassment.
