KSRTC bus overturns on Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, two killed

Ramanagara : Two passengers died after a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus met with a fatal accident on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway near Avaregere Gate in Ramanagara taluk during the early hours of Saturday.

The bus was reportedly travelling from Kerala towards Bengaluru when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the Avaregere Gate. The bus veered towards the roadside and crashed into a large signboard installed along the expressway. The force of the collision caused the bus to overturn on the road.

Two passengers died at the spot, while several others sustained injuries. Some of the injured passengers were reported to have suffered serious injuries and were shifted to hospitals for treatment.

The accident led to a brief disruption of traffic on the busy expressway as the overturned bus remained on the carriageway. Other motorists faced difficulties while passing through the accident zone.

On receiving information, personnel from the Bidadi police station and Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the location. Rescue personnel worked to evacuate passengers trapped inside the bus and shifted the injured to hospitals.

Police officials inspected the accident spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the crash. A case has been registered at the Bidadi police station.

Officials are also expected to collect statements from the injured passengers and other witnesses to establish whether speeding, driver fatigue, a mechanical problem or another factor contributed to the accident.

The crash has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, where high-speed traffic and heavy vehicle movement remain a challenge. Police are continuing their investigation, while details regarding the identities of the deceased passengers are awaited.
