Protesting students call talks with Jharkhand government ‘positive’, say protest will continue

New Delhi: The first round of talks between JPSC-JSSC aspirants and a Jharkhand government delegation ended on a positive note on Friday. However, the students said their protest would continue until the government addressed their demands.

The aspirants have protested at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The agitation entered its 14th day on Friday, with six protesters continuing their hunger strike.

Further talks planned

After the meeting, student protest spokesperson Piyush Kumar Singh said the aspirants had placed all their demands before the government representatives. “Today’s discussion was positive; we presented all our demands, and further rounds of talks will take place. The protest will continue for now, and there will be another round of discussions,” Singh said.

Another member of the aspirants’ delegation said the government had taken their concerns seriously and would discuss them with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. “The protest continues. Our issues were taken seriously. They will speak with the CM. A solution will be brought about,” he said.

Students express confidence

Student representative Ravindra Paswan said the participants held the meeting in a cordial atmosphere. He expressed confidence that the state government would treat the demands as genuine. “It felt very positive. Sitting with everyone felt like family. It was a really positive meeting. We are confident that the government, the CM and all ministers will consider our demands genuine,” Paswan said.

Jharkhand Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu also described the discussions as cordial and assured the aspirants that the government would examine their concerns. “We had a meeting with the students in a cordial atmosphere. We understood the demands of students. Govt is committed to deliberate on the students’ demand, seriously,” Sonu said.

Five-member government panel

The government formed a five-member panel to hold talks with the protesters. It included ministers Dipika Pandey Singh and Sudivya Kumar Sonu, along with Chamra Linda, Sanjay Prasad and Additional Chief Secretary for Health Ajoy Kumar Singh.

Aspirants list demands

The protesters have demanded the cancellation of the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination. They have also sought an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities. The aspirants want either the Central Bureau of Investigation or a panel of retired high court judges from outside Jharkhand to conduct the probe.
